Help with Canonet QL17 GIII

I just purchased and received a canonet qL17 GIII on ebay. The auction stated everything works and that a new battery came with it. Well, the battery light does not work. The shutter tripped a couple of times before it stopped working.

My Question is......Will the shutter still open and close if you have a dead battery.

The shutter is mechanical and should work fine as long as you take it off the A setting and set an aperture. If you want a copy of the manual try here. http://pentax-manuals.com/manuals/range/range.htm
