Help with diagnosing shutter problem with Kiev III

Hi everybody. Thanks for taking the time to answer.
No I do not trust Cupog, he responded regarding the Canon and the Kiev, and his explanaitions regarding their condition sounded dubious at best (By the way I sent the Canon to him and while it was being CLA`d by him I bought the Kiev. I received both cameras at the same time, had I known about the dodgy work he did on the Canon I probably wouldn`t have bought the Kiev).
I haven`t touched it yet and aren`t going to. Again I`m looking for someone competent to Repair it, and am thinking Fedka might be the best bet at the moment since my bad experience with Oleg Khalyavin. If anybody knows about anybody else who are competent to repair my Kiev I`m all ears.

Gejza (cupog) writes in his add that the camera received a complete CLA, and I have no qualms believing him.
... I don't want to send the camera back for a refund as the camera is quite rare and I really want to keep it.
I could send the camera to Oleg Khalyavin but last time I sent a Kiev 2a to him for a CLA it came back with a leaky shutter curtain.

You have 2 options: a) keep camera because it's rare and get it repaired - and risk that it won't be repairable or b) return it or get it "repaired" by cupog (who already failed your expectations). That is up to you.

Regarding the problem with Oleg - nobody is perfect. I haven't tried Oleg nor Fedka, but I've heard good as well as bad things about both of these guys. They are better bet than cupog.

From my own experience Kievs are more prone to light leaks due to their complex shutter design. In Leicas and clones the shutter is enclosed in its own 'box' in front of the film chamber. In Kiev the shutter extends to most of the body cavity and unless film tested it is difficult to say if it's light tight.

Hello Loman: I don't know where you're located, but Fedka in New York is a good bet for repair if you're in the US or Canada:

I have a '70s Kiev 4a on which Fedka's tech did a CLA with good results. Yuri is easy to communicate with. Your Kiev is a superior model to mine, and I think a professional job would be worth the cost.
