I've got three Minolta Freedom Tele cameras, and they're making me rack my brain over something I'm guessing should be dead simple..

I can't get the flash to fire on any of them. Even holding down the button to force flash does nothing. When I test either of these cameras against a Minolta AutoFocus Tele that I have, the AutoFocus Tele meters, fires the shot (with flash) just fine, whereas neither Freedom Tele will take a shot because the red light designating "too dark" is on in the viewfinder.

I've read the Freedom Tele instructions a number of times, and it seems that the flash should automatically fire. None of them do this. Could I really have THREE duds? Now to be fair, two of them have other issues, but will take photos. One makes a whining sound when the Tele lens is extended, and closes the tele lens when you try to take a picture with it. (Grand, eh?) The other one will not completely retract the flash when you press the Lens Select button to go back to the "normal" lens.

The last one works flawlessly other than the flash. What could I be doing wrong? The battery Im using to test them is fresh (I picked a new one up today to test that.)
