Hello,

I've spent far too much of the past week trying to resurrect an ebayed gsn and i've hit a dead end. when the camera arrived, the electrics were dead. after a new battery and little resoldering from the negative terminal, the battery test light works.

BUT... still no meter. under/over lights don't work, and shutter is always 1/500. i've been told there must be a short somewhere. I attempted to take off the front, but one of the four screws under the skin is completely threaded. Does anyone have any advice on what I can do now? Thanks,

Nick

Sounds like the POD needs replacing..

Google yashica-guy

pod already replaced...

got the front open and all contacts looked good, haven't started to take apart the lens though.

any other suggestions?

Does it have the critical 2mm thickness?? This is important..

the pad is of proper thickness. i also have one fully functional gsn and am thinking about putting this one up for parts or repair. oh well...

also, as a resource, this is a very good one:

only place i found an electro repair manual online

update:

after taking apart the lens, i discovered one of the red wires had broken free from the battery-switch contact in the shutter (this is a gold flexible thing). after putting together an elaborate set up of wires, tape, and tinfoil, i compressed the shutter release part way, and using a toothpick to make contact in the shutter, i got an over/under lamp to go!

any advice on how to resolder this contact, there's not a lot of room around it and removing the battery-contact requires taking apart most of the shutter. for those familiar with the insides of these things, the lower red wire is the one disconnected.
