Just pondering - £40 box of Contax II parts plus $115 and shipping to Kiev / Arsenal techs = lovely useable camera with Kiev heart .

Lovely collectable Contax II plus Henry Scherer = uncontaminated Zeiss classic .
I am not knocking any Contax restorer , and do not grudge anyone having a truly original , uncontaminated , Contax in great condition .
The Contax III , the techs sorted for me is good condition and almost original other than a spring and screws , but I despaired of ever owning a true Contax until I found the Kiev connection .
One element of buying a real , dead , brassed £30 Contax II advertised for spares and having it customised with tan leather and polished body metal . I would have prefered a fressh Kiev shutter , but those guys seemed decided to keep the cameras as original as humanly possible !
It was the cost of buying a good condition Contax and of repair , inevitably using second hand parts which made me despair of a Contax of my own , it was the former Arsenal connection , a box of parts from a RFF member and some e-bay parts wrecks which enabled more than one of my dream cameras ...
... and , if I prefer near mint , I have 1951 / 1952 / 1955 Kiev II and 1956 Kiev IIa .
