Looking over the African veldt (used to was you could do the same over the American plains), you'll see herds.
Lots of them. Mostly different, but intermingled. Sometimes moving in the same direction, sometimes not.
I think "herd theory" may be less useful at the end of the day than not.
But that may just be the wart hogs' take. The Gnus' may have a different answer.
