Here: List of recommended E6 labs

I also can recommend CSW Film Systems in Chicago from personal experience. They do both E6 and C41 processing, proofing and printing. It is a small lab that delivers good quality consistently and actually processes film for other labs in Chicago and the Midwest.

I've always processed my slide film in Toronto over the years (Color Genics, Downtown Camera, Toronto Image Works). Sadly, all of them stopped processing E6... the last one to go was Toronto Image Works just a month ago.

So while visiting the US with a few rolls of 35mm Provia 100F, I started researching online where to send them. I came across Dwayne's and AgX.

I sent all my rolls to Mike at AgX in Michigan because he ONLY does E6 and so is very specialized in this field. After a few days I decided to call him to check up on the progress. Right next to my phone my wife had stacked the mail. Just as I was dialing I saw a package from AgX.

I was pleasantly surprised to see that all the rolls had come back before I had expected! In fact, I also realized that I hadn't even paid or given any credit card info. So AgX did this immaculate work (mounted in plastic mounts, all stacked in plastic boxes, and not a speck of dust) without taking a penny! Mike had just written a note with the slides saying that 'I can pay at my convenience'.

I'm not affiliated with AgX. I'm a first time customer that was thoroughly impressed with their work ethics and high quality. When I called Mike to give him the credit card info and thank him, we talked about his plans of continuing slide processing for the long term. I even suggested that he call up Toronto Image Works and see if they want to sell him their slide developing gadgetry.

I highly recommend AgX for the following reasons:
1. Excellent and kind customer service and support.
2. Fast.
3. Top quality work.
4. Specializes in E6.
5. Plans of continuing E6 processing for the long term.

The last point is the most important. After sending the film to AgX I discovered a camera store that does E6 down the street from where I'm staying here in the US. When I spoke with this camera store, they said they were going to stop E6 processing at the end of this year. This made me realize that I should continue supporting AgX with my business even though it's more convenient for me to drive down the street and get them done in a day.

The more business we slide film shooters concentrate into one location, the longer that business will continue. If we scatter our business to places that don't even intend on continuing with E6 in the near future, we are limiting slide film's survival potential.

I had critical E6 processing done over the years by Gamma Imaging in Chicago, always excellent. The kind of work that could be replaced only at great difficulty.

I shoot Tri-X and use Ilford Lab US nearby in Southern California, always excellent. They accept E6.

PLM in Tilburg (the Netherlands) is doing professional E-6 developing. Not really cheap but the quality is OK.

Hi,

another two excellent E6 labs in Germany:

1. Fotolabor Service Görner in Dresden:
http://www.foto-labor-dresden.de/

2. Fotolabor Weckbrodt in Hanover, they are just starting mail order service:
http://www.foto-weckbrodt.de/

E6 development is only 4€ (!!) at both labs.

Cheers, Jan

+1.

I know Fotolabor Weckbrodt, and they are very good.
A friend of mine is using Fotolabor Görner in Dresden being very satiesfied with the quality as well.

Hi guys,

Film Ferrania is asking for our help:

"We're trying to build a database of labs who process E-6 film. Once we get a nice list going, we're going to publish it on our site and keep it updated.

If you've got a favorite lab that you know processes E-6, please take a minute to fill out this form:

http://www.filmferrania.it/labs

(If you own or work at a lab, there are a couple of extra questions that will be super helpful...)"

I think that is what we've done here in this thread, but transferring it to the next level.
That is very good.

So all of you who have helped here to list recommended labs, please add your recommendations to this database!

Thanks and cheers, Jan

In western Canada (where I live) almost all the commercial E-6 labs are gone.

Just a couple blocks up the hill from me is a massive yellow-painted hulk of a building that used to be Kodak's regional headquarters. I used to take many of my films there back in the 1980's and 1990's. Now part of it is a dodgy-looking grocery store, but the majority of it sits empty.

Driving by this decaying, sad-looking building is a constant reminder of Kodak's decline. But they still have a faded photo of Michael Landon in the window, from when he was the spokesman for Kodak's quality assurance. It's almost like he's saying "Come here, half-pint! Let me process that Ektachrome for you!"

Back on topic (for Canadians): "Don's Photo", which is a chain in Alberta / Saskatchewan / Manitoba will process E-6, but the turn-around is about 10 days. They send it to their E-6 lab in Winnipeg, I think.

I finally got tired of the hassle and waiting, and just ordered the Tetenal E-6 kit from Germany. Easy to use, excellent results. I do my own E-6 at home.
Wow, As you can see I live in Northern Ontario, and have been with this firm for all my E6 and enlargements since the early 90's. The Lab Works in Winnipeg is top notch, and are there to do the best for you. Just ask them?

I've just returned from a trip to India and have discovered that Genie Imaging in London have stopped all their processing services from January 9th. This is very bad news. I used them a lot for E6 processing and prints. The machine prints, on an Agfa machine, were excellent quality and value matching perfectly my scans and without applying over sharpening and brightness that I've had with other operators.

I also discovered that since last august Metro Imaging in London have stopped all in house film processing and hand printing.

Hi Jan , at the end of last year I had a large B&W hand print done by someone who told me that she used to work for Metro but they stopped all in house film processing and hand printing in August so although they still advertise film processing services I guess they just farm out. I'll have to double check. I never used them, except in emergency as their prices are too high. Yes, in UK there are still many postal services but Genie was the only one in London I could personally visit and get good quality at reasonable cost.

Costco in MarinaDel Rey, CA does excellent c41 dev and scans for 35mm film for really cheap. $4.86 including tax!

On the other hand, Samy's Camera in LA just ruined some 120 film I had them process. They fogged it in the lab. This was the first time I tried them, and sent half to them, half to NorthCoast. NCPS dev was fine.
DO NOT USE SAMYS.

I can heartily recommend Blue Moon Camera in Portland for real analog c-41 machine prints, very beautiful work indeed. They also do E-6 but I haven't tried it from them yet. Being in LA I like Icon for E-6 though they're a tad expensive. Richard's lab (which Freestyle uses) damaged and/or lost several frames on my E-6 on 3 different occasions and I won't use them again.

I tried 2 places so far for mail order development of e-6 and reversal B&W films. Photo studio 13 in Germany (as mentioned by Jan on the first post). They are good and the film is clean and they ship fast too. One problem is that they don't accept credit card (only bank transfer and cash with the films). Arka lab in Paris. Also good with good turn around times, they ship express which is good. They are more expensive than photo studio 13 but not by much. I usually develop my e-6 at home but B&W reversal is really great and photo studio 13 has a lot of option that can be developed this way.

You can buy Photo studio 13 vouchers online from macodirect.com at the same time you buy your film from them. In that way you can pay by PayPal or credit card and have the voucher on hand when you finish shooting your roll. I agree their service is both affordable and of high quality.

Cheers,
Rob

That is correct, Rob.
But if you send your film directly to Photo Studio 13, it is much cheaper than using the vouchers.
Both their quality and their service is top-notch.
I've had always excellent results using them.

Cheers, Jan
