Just got in from work and a small package awaits, contained with in is a M39 to Fuji XF adapter. I have a few questions, l have set the XE1 to 'shoot without lens mode', and set the foal length of the lens in the menu mode, also flicked the switch on the body to manual focus, is there anything else l have to do? how do l get a correct meter reading, obviously l would focus the lens manually. Are there any tips etc regarding shooting with heritage glass, any help gratefully accepted. I am off work Wednesday and plan to play with the xe1 and my Elmar 3.5 then😀

You're set... just go for it. 😀

There are a number of different focus methods in regard to the VF.
Standard (no peaking) as well as peaking offer two magnifications by pushing in the back dial.
One turn of the dial shows higher magnification... another turn lowers it. Just like manual focus with a native lens.
Metering is the same as always. Each lens may interact differently with metering patterns.
A wide lens with a close nodal point for example will meter differenty than an 85mm f2 for example.
Just get to know your lenses.
I use AE for metering and set the exposure pre-view on.

You may find as I did that the XE1 is better for adapting lenses than the Xpro1.
The EVF is better suited.

Cheers!

many thanks for the very helpful reply, how do you set the pre-view on

There are a few menu settings I find are good.

Color +1
Sharpness leave at 0
Highlight Tone -2
Shadow Tone -1

Auto-ISO to max out at about 1600. (for low light, I just Quick menu and change to 3200 or 6400, if needed)

Those are the main ones. I use the A shutter setting, for aperture priority mostly. I often rotate the exposure comp down 1/3 to 2/3 stops. Have fun, all I've used on my XE-1 are Legacy lenses, I don't even have an autofocus!

These are good settings. I'll chime in with a vote for shooting raw+jpeg, with one of the monochrome modes (I like green filter)

Even if you plan on using color in your final output, shooting w/ the monochrome can help tighten up your compositions.

many many thanks this is also very helpful🙂

I also shoot in monochrome mode w/ focusing peaking set to red using the evf. The red against b/w makes peaking much easier. Whether u shoot jpg+raw or just raw, the raw image still contains your color info (only use Aperture photo sw for this, I assume other raw developers will do the same).

Thanks for the reply Gary, can you set the peak colour to red on the XE1 or just on the X pro 1
