Hi all, hoping for some advice,

I've just received a new used M-Hexanon 90 from Matsuiya (Ebay), arrived in excellent condition except... the aperture's squeaky. Most squeaky between f/2.8 and 5.6. Is this normal for this lens? I'm quite happy with it otherwise, in build and in price. Yet to develop any pics from this lens. Do you think I should contact the retailer?

Thanks for the help,

Jim

I have had one for less than 2 months now and haven't noticed any squeakiness whatsover. Love mine and am very happy I bought it from a fellow rff'er (thanks again, Roland!).

edit: P.S. Sorry, Jim, but I hope my posting above did not sound like any sort of bragging for having bought mine without troubles from a fellow rff'er. And yes, i would definitely talk to the seller of your lens if the squeakiness doesn't go away after a little bit of working it as peter has suggested. Good luck!

No it is not normal Jim. The aperture detents are well defined on most M-Hexanon lenses and can make a distinct "click" when the aperture ring is turned. Work the ring while you are watching the telly or something and see if it goes away. Also I would send an email to Matsuiya and inform them of the situation. Let's hope you don't have to send it back...

Thanks a lot for the replies guys, much appreciated. I'll contact Matsuiya and see what they have to say about it.

Cheers,
Jim

Thanks again for the reply guys, I've kept the lens and will maybe get it CLA'd in future -- I got it for a good price and am otherwise quite happy with it. I haven't noticed it squeak much since first identifying the problem.

I was wondering if anyone could tell me the diameter of the slip on metal cap? B&H has 52, 54 and 55mm caps available, but I'm unsure of which to order (after having measured myself).

Thanks for the help,

Cheers
JB

I just measured the inside diameter of the cap at 54mm. How accurate my measurement was I don't know. The lens manual states that the max. diameter of the lens is 55mm, and that would either be the focusing or aperture ring. 52mm looks too small to me so it may be 54. B&H has an excellent return policy BTW.
