wondering about a price on a nib, demo lens.
it has barely been touched.

a 90/2.8 m hexanon for leica.

i'm waiting on a confirmed quote but unless there has been a mistake, the price seems very, very good.

joe

i have done the searches but have not been able to determine what a good price might be.

i had not been thinking about this lens for my 90 but i may have a shot at a new one.

help...

joe

Hi Joe,

I bought one (NIB) here at a camera shop in Melbourne for $400 AUD which at the moment is about $305 USD. I don't think Iwould go much higher than that.

Good luck,

Lou

305 seems really low...i doubt i would find one at that price locally.
they originally sold for over 1000 cdn.

thanks dan, ol' pal!

I bought mine new in box, non-demo with full warranty for 325 dollars. That was in the fall, in Japan.

i saw that too al and i agree that it will likely go higher.

stuart, 325 is a good price i think.

i'll know for sure on monday, but the one i saw today was priced at 395 cdn which is about 356 u.s.
i doubt that i'd find another one locally at all, let alone at a lower price.

the saleman needed to double check on the price so i have to wait till next week.
if that is the correct price i think i'll buy it.
i have been looking for a nice elmar c 90/4, factoring cost and performance but this new 90/2.8 is in the same ballpark, money wise, is faster and from what i have read is as good a performer, maybe better.

and new is nice...:)

Joe, I think that is a very good price. And I think it is going to be a superb performer. Mine was way beyond the Tele-Elmarit that I had. I am not quite sure what happened in Ray's thread about it, but I think exposure and subject matter was working against it. It is a very sharp and contrasty lens, and I don't think it really got a fair shake in that thread. Unfortunately, I am away from my scanner or I would post some stuff taken with it. One nice thing about it is that it is small, light, and features a sliding hood. It makes it very nice and easy to use and a good choice to get a lot of extra reach and a reasonably fast max aperture with only a tiny bit of extra bulk.

I think the 90/2.8 can go for as high as $600. I saw someone *TRY* to sell one at $1500 (it didn't sell). If you can get one in the $300-$400 range that would be a good deal.

Like Stuart says I don't think it came out looking too good in my comparison thread, but it's a nice "fast" lens, in a very nice size. I shot some more with it last week. I've attached a closeup portrait shot in full direct sun, with a green filter, and a little USM.

Good luck with your search.

:)

Joe: when I bought mine (new) in late 2002, I paid $375. Mind you, it was part of a package, including a Hexar kit (body, 50mm f/2 M-Hex, flash, and that posh display case), so the dealer cut me a bit of slack. A fair price for a clean one, with box and case, should be $450-500 tops, IMO. The lens is a true sleeper, well-designed, well-built. No need to compare it with all the other worthy 90s; it stands on its own merits, and well.

Barrett,

Do you shoot mostly color with your Hex lenses? Thanks.

p.s. I tried to send you a PM, but your box is full (hence the edited title of this post).

Ray

Last time I checked, it's a 70/30 mix of b/w to color. Searching my hard drives for examples of both as I write this.

P.S. Thanks for reminding me...cleaning out the ol' PM box right now!

Last month, some german company sold cca 15 of them on eBay at 300 EUR BIN price. They're all gone now though.

Great lens. I traded mine in for a "thin" TE. Not sure if I did the right thing. Don't even think about it Joe - that's a good price!

Peter, if your thin TE is anything like my thin TE, I am not sure you did the right thing. The Konica is definitely sharper wide open. That said, I have not done a full comparison of them in varied lighting conditions. That said, the TE is still a great lens, so no big loss.
