Hi,
Dante Stell'a's review of the Hexar AF indicates that the trigger voltage of some flashes may not be suitable for the Hexar. Has anyone here used a Nikon SB-15 with the Hexar?
Thanks,
Vijay

You can measure the trigger voltage with a DC voltmeter at the hot shoe contacts. I was suprised to find both of my flashes (Vivitar and Braun) were over 200 volts. As I understand it, camera that use electronic switching or transisters to fire the flash could have trouble handling that much voltage. Cameras that use contacts for firing the flash don't care what the voltage is. Also, if the flash is designed for a camera with electronic switching, then it should have a lower trigger voltage.

I use an SB-15 with my GA645 without any issue. One day I am going to put it on my Classic Hexar.

A few people use the SB-15 with the Hexar. My original flash packed in and I bought an SB-15 for use with it, but I must confess I haven't fired it up yet.

Thanks for the responses everyone.
Paul: I saw that thread before posting but couldn't find anyone who actually came out and said that they have used the combination.
I may just try measuring the voltage on the SB-15 and HX-14 and if they are close enough, give it a try.

Just tried the Hexar and SB-15 combo...they work fine together. I really like the design of the SB-15. Switching from horizontal to vertical composition while you are bouncing the flash requires moving the head only along one dimension, as opposed to two dimensions with my other flashes that swivel and tilt. May have to get another one for the DSLR....
