Hexar AF diopter? help...

Does anyone know if the Hexar (black, original) ever came with diopter correction lenses? If so, how did they go in?

Just got a beautiful one off of KEH bargain, but the view through the finder is a bit blurry. I don't have a battery for it yet, but I don't recall that the finder sets itself when the camera goes on. Anyone have any ideas?

There's definitely something funny. When it powers on, the VF doesn't change at all. Still blurry. I pried off the ring around the VF and the view through that is crystal clear. Could someone look at their Hexar (black) VF. Mine has a lens covering the entire inner circle, with a thin plastic frame on the inside of it. Together that makes up the VF outer unit. Inside the camera is another lens, that's larger.

Any ideas?

Okay, it's a conversation of one at the moment. Interesting update. If I look at the eyepiece at a slight angle, I see a +1 faintly in the surface. That answers that question. Now to see if I can find a normal, non-corrected eyepiece somewhere. Yeah, right!

Anyone have any ideas on that? (And where the specialists for Hexar repair live?)

Take a look at the eyepiece of the black hexar. Is there is a lens that covers the entire area inside the plastic rim? There should be a plastic or thin metal black mask, shaped like a rectangle with one side rounded. Is yours under that outer lens?

Ray, since I'm sure i've got a dioptered Hexar, I will call KM NJ and see if they have a normal one. Or I'll try to find someone with that diopter who wants to trade!

My silver looks the same as Rav's when I unscrewed the trim. Doug, you say you "pried" yours off. That can't be good.

There's no screwing happening. Er, You know what I mean. I believe that the diopter changes the system. For instance, the first glass in the VF unit itself (not in the eyepiece that comes out) doesn't have the mask on it. That's glued to the back of the diopter lens itself.

So I think Konica had to insert the diopters in NJ and it introduced a different system. That's my theory anyway. It's also possible that the eyepiece design changed a bit over the run.

There's some glue residue but it came out very easily (ie, nothing broke). I'm going to call them today and will post anything enlightening they have to say.

I'm sure you've resolved your issue by now, but upon doing some research, yes, the diopter is integrated into the system, so getting an AF with a diopter may need a clear filler part.

I'd like to find a - .5 or - 1.0 so I can see clearly through mine without glasses, but I'm sure they're very hard to find. I was lucky to get a -1.0 from DAG for my CL which helps immensely. Most of my other non-RF cameras have mild diopter correction built-in.
