Hi, I recently bought a HEXAR AF from a rangefinderforum member FILMFAN. However this HEXAR cannot focus correctly with distance from 2m to 10m even the object is at the middle of the frame. FILMFAN do not allow sending of PM or email to him.

In addition, the focus cannot be locked after half-press the shutter release.

Any idea about this problem and can it be fixed?

First, check you don't have a filter fitted - this can be a problem with close distances. Secondly, Google Hexar shutter button problem (do a site specific on here) - it's a well known fault. THe fix is pretty simple.

Dear Paul, thx for your advice.

It is not the problem of the filter. I am quite sure is the problem of the electronic focusing mechanism. I have tested by focus on a subject of 3 and 5 and 7 meter, the distance scale reads are all far less or away from the actual distance. When I use manual focus, the lens distance scale on lens show correctly. I take two rolls and the focus distance between 3M and around 7M are all off when using auto-focus

The distance scale is too inexact to be useful. Have you tried it on film?

If the focus cannot lock (which may be your problem), the shutter switch needs to be replaced.

Dante,

Thx for your suggestion. I realize it has the lazy shutter problem, but my trial is shotting of object at the middle of the frame without half-press and reframing. I tried two rolls of film, simply focus and shot the object right at the middle of the frame but still get out of focus result (3m to 7m) before I look into the distance scale matter. Anyway I sent it to Sony for an inspection.

Just so people don't get the wrong idea-- I am currently in contact with Alexfan about the issue and we are working it out.

I'm amazed at how often that shutter button is the weak link in an otherwise strong chain.

Hi just to give an update of my Hexar, It was sent to Sony. They did focus mechanical parts re-alignment on the camera to fix the problem. Actually I have sent to them two times as the problem was not completely fixed at the first time.
