Hexar AF forum

Given the members expressing interest in a Hexar AF forum/club (in another thread that I don't want to hijack http://www.rangefinderforum.com/forums/showthread.php?p=337083#post337083) I wondered whether we could convince Jorge to allow this unique camera a forum on RFF?- that way its in the family!

 Please!

Any votes for this out there?

I'm in; although, most would agree that the Hexar AF is a P&S and not a rangefinder. Therefore, it wouldn't fit here... :D Maybe a general P&S forum would better serve the forum, since the Ricoh GR is popular, as is the Fuji Natura S, and the little Nikons, the Minilux cameras, etc.

Without a doubt the AF is an excellent camera.

we have a point & shoot forum.

i was thinking of a camera club but online.
and of course i have no idea what that would like like.

joe

my turn for the doh!

the first thing that comes to mind is Flickr (like what Rich setup) and/or a blog (blogger..com)

Yeah - I guess we do have P& S forum, but that somehow to me has an undertone of "snapshot" rather than the more considered approach one can take with great cameras like the Hexar or the GR1. In fact it will take me quite some time and some learning to be comfortable with the Hex.

That said, maybe its "unfair" to single out one camera despite it's cult status.....

I guess some might suggest that it's the resultant photograph that counts, but I still vaule how you there.

The Flickr route is probably a good opiton - and there might even be one already. There is a yahoo group , however it's inactive but for spam.

I know what you mean, John. The camera has a strong following for a reason, and I think it's because it handles nothing like a p&s. It is a shame to relegate it to the class of p&s. We all know point and shoot cameras, and the Hexar is not a point and shoot camera. The good thing here (on RFF) is that we're probably guaranteed that the the p&s forum will be populated by users of cameras like the AF and the GR1, and even the Fuji GA645.

I'd love to see hexar forums here

I'd love to see hexar forums here

however, of the data I have for both the AF and the RF, which is extensive, much has been contributed by other sites, or defunct sizes and sent to me privately, so someone would need to get approvals from those folks to really be clean.

I'd floated the idea a while ago for a general Hexar forum, encompassing the AF and RF models, but there seemed to be relatively little interest (and the Hexar RF Yahoo! Group, which I've participated a fair amount in, is active only in fits and starts). The Hexar autofocus sort of fits in the pantheon of "thinking persons' point-n-shoots", along with the Ricoh GR series, Nikon Ti series, Contax T series et al. Given the general caliber of individual who tends to gravitate toward these cameras (and actually uses them, rather than wear them as outsized jewelry), getting them together in a forum seems akin to herding cats (I'm continually amazed at how RFf draws such a creatively "with-it" crowd), it's understandable that forums dedicated to these cameras either never get off the ground or, when they do, meet with a somewhat tepid response. All we wanna do is snap!

Isn't a Hexar AF forum pretty specific? That's kinda like establishing a Leica M6 forum, and a Leica M3 forum, so on and so on..

yes it is specific

yes it is specific

so is a forum for rangefinder cameras...

I might be the only owner, and parttime user, of a Contax TVS here, should I petition for a Contax TVS forum?

maybe

maybe

but would your topics by chance be of interest to those who frequent the existing Contax forum?

There currently is no Konica/Minolta forum for the Hexars to even be a subset of. The Hexar RF is more like an M6 and I think often ends up there.

The AF is unique, it doesn't share lenses, batteries, or current support levels of other systems.

You don't need to read or subscribe to a forum or topic that doesn't interest you. There is much more on rff that I don't read than I do read.

The Hexar AF is a very good autofocus point-and-shoot camera. Even tho the lens is excellent and the camera has some very unique features, such as silent mode and an ingenious P-program, it does not deserve to be singled out as a tool which is superior to all other p&s cameras.

There are no pictures that you can take with this camera that you cannot take with other cameras.

I too would love to see a Hexar forum. I sent Jorge a P.M on it but it has been ignored so far.

Matt...

Me too Matt , though I think you might have asked for a RF rather than AF forum.

Others have noted that a Hexar AF forum is getting a bit specific, and I take the point...however when one searches on "Hexar" or even "Hexar AF " not a lot comes up , and when it does its more often the RF interchangeable version. This is a little frustrating, because there;s got to be good stuff on the RFF about it.

There are significant difference between these two AF and RF and while I can see the RF squeezing in with the M-mount Leicas (if its welcome ;) ) I think the HexAF stands alone.

Not least because it appears deceptively P& S, but there's a lot more under that mild mannered skin! A forum would help fans see others work with the cam by following through to their galleries...

There was also a suggestion in the thread about a Konica Forum which is a fair point, but owners of the older Konicas might not be that interested in the electronic wizardy of the AF..

Please note that I'm not complaining aboiut a lack of a HexAF forum, merely suggesting one and looking for interest in keeping one here rather than elsewhere. I'm just keen to learn from others in this community :)

eh... RF cameras encompasses multiple brands/models.. Hexar AF is one specific brand/model.

Just give the man a generic Hexar forum and be done wit it.
