hexar af ND filter question

sorry to start yet another hexar topic but I'm just interested in buying a ND filter for my hexar to increase flexibility when shooting in the day, and allowing to f.2 in day light.

does the filter effect the lens quality at all? And which ND filter do you guys recommend for the hexar?

Also since the meter is not though the lens, if i had 100iso film would i manually change it to 50iso?

The filter quality will affect the lens: you are adding another "element", and that's why only high quality filters should be used. No sense in having a great lens and downgrading its quality with a cheap piece of glass. I'd suggest B+W, Rodenstock, Schneider, Singh-Ray or similar. Some of the Hoyas might be worth looking at too.

Depending on the filter density and corresponding filter factor, you will need to set the ISO to reflect the lower effective ISO.

I use a Heliopan ND 8 on my Hexar AF. Good glass and no image degradation that I can detect.

Equal to 3 stops reduction which I find most useful due to the light intensity where I live.

ISO 100 will need to be set to ISO 12.

and when developing do you develop to iso 100 or iso 12? I'm guessing iso 100?

Yep - you'd still dev for 100. You're not pulling the film - only compensating exposure for the ND filter.

Had some questions related to this exact topic:
* I hope it helps others as well that need reassurance/confirmation with the same question(s).

Being that the Hexar AF doesnt use any light metering through the lens, rather a sensor on the side of the lens.

With a Hexar AF:

* Loaded with Tri-X 400 (Pushed 1600/2 stops)
- Manually Set ISO in camera to 1600 [16H]

If you used ND Filter with a ND rating of 0.3;0.6;0.9

* Would I manually change the ISO Rating on the Hexar AF to:

* 0.3 [1 Stop] = 800
* 0.6 [2 Stop] = 400
* 0.9 [3 Stop] = 200

^ Developing all the above at ISO 1600?


Want to make sure I have this right and the camera set up properly with each type of ND filter. The cameras I have had usually meter through the lens so I havent come across this.
I dont always run through a 36exp. roll thats in camera & I'm trying to adapt to this camera with any lighting conditions while using pushed film developed at 1600.

Also, ???: Would there be any issues using a ND filter in doors, say a 0.3 [1 Stop] ?

^ yep 1600 becomes 200 with 3 stop filter.
