Some interesting stuff here. Although it's possibly a bit hard to tell from the size of the images, I think you might be hitting the USM a bit too hard with these scans. Keep on keepin' on!

Yes, I know what you mean. I applied sharpening to the whole set in bulk, manually I probably should have only to 30% or so.
Here's a set of similar film/dev, but LOW USM during scanning, and selective sharpening in pp: here
but the subject matter, lighting, and distances are different and the developing was done at a different temp., possibly affecting the contrast which are lower in this LOW scanning USM roll.

These certainly benefit from backing off USM.
Of course, the thing to remember is to enjoy the process while sorting the technical stuff out...as it looks like you're doing.
