Hexar AF viewfinder photo

The Hexar RF does not have the push buttons the AF does in order to do any reprograming.

Yea, you would need to replace the cpu/chip/brain of the camera that handles operation, would mean, removing/reprograming chip and then soldering it on to the camera again.

Sometimes, electronic boards have connectors dedicated to maintenance (or at least diagnosis). Maybe some cameras have that too (although I would guess that it would be some high end, highly automated cameras, not the Hexar RF)

The Hexar RF probably has some simple low power chip to handle the light meter, but I doubt it's field programmable. I could be wrong, but I would be very surprised if that chip were as capable as the AF. The AF is actually doing much, much more work internally.
