my HX-14 died all of a sudden. it was working fine, then it stopped.
It still charges it's capacitor until the ready light is lid, but it won't fire. The cap is not getting uncharged too.

any ideas? or could anyone point me to a schematic or service manual?
I suspect the xenon bulb to be dead and there is no current flowing, thus the cap holds the charge.

btw. the hexar fires off other flashes just fine.

thanks

Highly unlikely that a service manual even exists for this little flash. I've never seen one anywhere in the 10+ years that I scour the internet on interesting things photography-related.

I suspect the factory used to simply toss these and replace them when under warranty, or make shooters buy a new one once warranty had expired.

Should you manage to draw a schematic yourself and perform a succesfull repair, I'd be interested to host it on my webpage on the Hexars!

Check the center contact pin on the bottom. If it is stuck "up," no flash.

And if that doesn't work, buy a Nikon SB-30, which is a lot better flash. Works the same way with the RF, just more power and more settings (as well as a built-in slave mode). About the same size.

thanks, yes I thought so, couldn't hurt asking tho :)
I doubt I will draw a schematic, that's just not worth the time. I thought there might be a common failure with a well known fix or so

btw, I came across your side when I started looking into buying a hexar.

Thanks! yeah I'm using the hexar with the other flash units I have. (weird, I don't know why I have so many). The Hexar makes this really easy!
Thanks for the tip on that nikon, it seems to be rather rare in germany tho.

Oh and while I am replying to you .. thanks for your site! it really helps killing slow minutes at work! I like your perspective on technical things.
