This is my 2nd day with Hexar RF.
due to blurry speed display and want to adjust focus (pass infinity on my 35VCf1.4), then I open the top cover (4screws and the ISO dial screw).
while seeing all mechanism works, I got an idea to modify framelines so it shows only 35mm, 50mm, and 28+90 (i don't have/don't use 135mm and 75mm). if it can be done, it will be like the one on ZI
whatever displayed after is my mod, do it if you have guts to try, take your own responsibility, I don't guarantee anything happen on your hexar.
so here is the mod :
1. firstly, after open the top cover, I need to peel the black plastic mask covering the framelines linkage. below is the picture after it have been peeled off.
see that there is a linkage (with blue notes) on the picture.
2. then I need to remove 2 screw on the top of framelines assy. you can take a picture with your digital camera to remember how it was aligned (or try to frame a specific area or your room, and remember the corner position, it will be helpful later during alignment)
3. carefully lift the assy up (sometimes it stick little bit, due to excess from glue of the screws), and also try to release/remove the linkage pin from the preview lever link.
4. after that, you will see that the assembly have 2 plates, the front plate is the RF frameline, while the inside plate (moveable by the linkage) is the one enable it. so should be peace of cake then.
5. i use black tapes (electric tapes), cut it small and put it on the front plate. it require 4 tapes for me, the outer tapes will block 75mm outer edge framelines , the inner tapes block 75mm middle edge framelines and also 135mm corner framelines. check by moving the linkage plate to see that you are blocking the correct framelines (and didn't leave dirt)
6. then assemble back, make sure you connect the linkage first then push the assy on the original position. put the screws (and glue/loctite if you want), install the black plastic cover, install the top cover and it's done. voila, a ZI framelines inside hexar

thanks flip, it's nice to have uncluttered framelines. I remember the day when I use M2, now my hexar 35mm framelines is close to it.

Holy crap that's really cool! I wonder if you could replace the framelines with another plate? You could have a hexar with some odd framelines! 24/40 come to mind. Maybe even 60 for the Hexar 60/1.2.

Kzphoto, I don't know if the mechanism work the same with others. (assume, a leica M6). What I ever know is on Bessa (I have 35RF aka R2), the way you select framelines is by sliding plates sideways (front plates and back plates) with respect to a middle plates (the framelines). this is different with Hexar which only 2 plates (actually the selector lever pull the linkage and the selector plate (inner plate) is "rotate" by the pull to select the frameline)
if there are same mechanism available (both plates, the framelines and selector), I think that should be easy swap..but magnification of the viewfinder may affect something to the new framelines. there is possibility indeed..
so, does anybody want to buy a ZI anymore ?

I was thinking of just replacing the plate altogether. Seems it would be fairly easy to cut out a new one using the existing framelines.

yes, you have a possibility.. just be careful, the frameline is so thin that once you mis-cut it, it might be destroy.

Thanks for sharing i´m about to add some 50mm framelines to my cle and now i see it´s easier than i thought!!!
(Allthough i have to cut some holes or slits in the masks to get them)

PB908, I know its a long shot resurrecting this old thread but I just bought a Hexar RF and the frame lines seem just slightly tilted. When you were doing your frame line mod, did you notice any adjustments for frame tilt? I love the camera and have been dreaming of getting one for a while but having the frame lines tilted is strangely distracting.
