Just happened to notice in the Subj line of their email response what looked like a different tag#, and indeed it is, and Repair Status now shows "Received" on 3/30, and "In Repair" as of 3/31. UPS tracking showed it delivered to them on 3/25. We shall see...

I hope they get you fixed up, Doug.
I would hate to have the problems you described! I think I would rather have my "WA body" Hexar that at least handled film properly and didn't have any light leaks.
BTW, my Hexar was free to me. I bought it in a kit that also contained lenses that I sold for what I paid for the whole outfit.

My Hexar RF is back, worse than when it left. The RF alignment is worse still than the first time it came back, and now the glass in the RF window is out of position.
AVOID PRECISION CAMERA REPAIR! They only will take the camera back for another attempted repair- no refund if they screw up the camera worse than it was in the first place.

Thanks for the update, Bob. I am really sorry they didn't fix yours up correctly.
I think we are at 2 strikes for Precision Camera Repair.
If Doug strikes out too, they are permantly OUT in my book.

I'm calling to try and get a full refund.

Two strikes indeed. I'd rather they had told me they couldn't fix the RF like they told you- it was at least possible to focus it the first time they f**ked with it- now it is absolutely impossible.

In Germany, Fotomechanik Reinhardt also stopped servicing them.
I was actually thinking of getting one again after I sold my first one.

This is not good news at all... I thought they would be the default repair station for the Hexar RF. Greg Weber is another resource. Might be useful to contact him about fixing Precision's botched repairs if we get to "strike three" on them.

They want to see the camera again, and sent me another UPS label. I spent a while on the phone explaining why I was reluctant to let them touch it again, and asked that the tech who wants to work on it call me first. They seem to not have phones in that area, but Jillian will see if the tech can call me. I'm in the studio the rest of today and all day Monday, so hope to hear from him. I'm going to try and get Greg Weber now, so I have info & options (I hope) when Pre****tin' calls back.

So, just got off the phone with Greg Weber, and it seems I may be SOL. The Hex 50/2 is needed to align the camera, and I don't have one to send him. I'm thinking I'm going to send him the camera to see if it's worth trying to dig up a Hex 50 from someone to have the camera aligned. I may not be able to have it aligned at all now- Precision could have ruined it, and if I have the early type RF it is likely toast. I knew I should have just saved up some more cash and gotten another M7.

I have been following this thread, really a bummer. I was thinking about picking up a RF for the nice snappy shutter speed.
Maybe try sending off to Sony in Japan?

This is discouraging. I was excited to know that Precision is the authorized service center since they're a short distance from me. Please let us know how things turn out. I think the world of Greg's work, but if Precision has parts that he doesn't, then we might be forced to use them for some things. Let's hope they do better.
It would kill me to think this camera can't be competently supported by the "official" service center.

Bob- That's interesting. Another 50/2, like the Summicron, won't work? That really stinks.
When working how do you like the camera? Viewfinder OKin general (that was my concern).

This is disturbing news. Maybe now the Hexars will start selling for a lot less on the Bay. Indeed, I wouldn't pay too much for one now, not knowing if it can't be repaired and if electronics are subject to sudden death. Maybe I'll just stick with the Hexanon lenses on a Bessa R3A.

At this point I'm thinking it isn't worth the trouble. I'll save up for another M7.

Sorry to hear about all the problems with your Hexars. Whats interesting (and I'm not a Pro repair person by any means, yet I have fixed a few cameras in my life), I had one of my Hexars open once and I adjusted RF allignment. It was not difficult at all. Just a little patience. Easier (or as easy) than adjusting Leica, actually. I also dont understand how a Pro repair place could cause so many problems? Glass in RF window is out of position? I really dont know how they could do that? I'm not a pro and I didnt screw mine up like that!
I also dont understand why Mr. Weber needs a Hexanon to allign your RF? Plus doesnt he have one handy? Whats wrong with using some other m-mount lens? Sorry, but some of these things just dont make sence to me. Maybe there are some specs I'm not aware of, but still - it didnt stip me from making my own allignment repair and it works fine - for six months or more now - no RF issues at all. I'm very puzzled by all this.
Based on all the info here - if something happens to my Hexars - I think I'm better off doing fix myself, it seems.
Good luck, I hope at the end it'll work out, as Hexars are great cameras and fact that some , so called, repair shop butchers one - doesnt mean camera is bad.

If the Hex 50/2 is a necessary tool for RF alignment I'm astounded he doesn't have one on hand for that very purpose. Or must it be the customer's own Hex 50, that there's variances? And, yes, why not a Summicron 50 or Planar 50? Odd.So, just got off the phone with Greg Weber, and it seems I may be SOL. The Hex 50/2 is needed to align the camera, and I don't have one to send him.

Greg says he needs a 50/2 Hexanon to properly align the camera. The 35, 28 or a Leica 50 won't work.

Not to second guess Mr. Weber, but that just sounds odd --
-- that this particular 50 is needed
-- and if it is, why he doesn't have one
The service manual has two "posters" in it with alignment targets... one for setting up the alignment (at 1 meter distance), and one for parallax correction. Let me see what it says...
Is sending it to Sony an option? Or another country? ( I had a lot of trouble with the Noblex repair place here in the US, and wound up sending it to Canada instead)

It's odd that a 50 Summicron won't work. I've adjusted the rf on Hexars in the past using both a 50/2 Hexanon and a tabbed Summicron. The rf alignment was virtually the same between them at both 1 meter and infinity. I once had a different 50/2 Hexanon that was off focus, but it was and issue with the lens, not the camera and was adjusted by DAG to match Leica specs. In fact, my Hexar RF Limited is so close to Leica spec that lenses from 21-135 from various manufacturers (Leica, ZM, Konica M and Konica LTM) focus equally as accurate on the Hexar RF or my MP. Maybe the Hexar RF Limited has slightly tighter tolerances.

My Hexar RF is back from Precision. As we know, they did not fix the RF alignment problem stating it needed a part that cannot be obtained.
It does appear that it is still in otherwise working condition (unlike Doug and SepiaReverb's).
I have a roll of NPS in it, with the uncoupled 25mm f4 Snapshot Skopar mounted. I will report back regarding the physical condition after I shoot the roll, and get it back.
