Hexar RF total production numbers?

Hi!

I just bought back my first M- mount rangefinder, a black Hexar RF s/n 1445081 (this is the actual camera I used to own).

Now, I was just wondering if anyone knows how many Hexars has been produced?
Stephen Gandys guess is that monthly production used to be less than 500 from 1999 to 2003.

Is this correct, or does someone have more detailed information?

His website states the starting production number was 140001. That's about all I know. I was looking for this info today as well...

I heard something like 12K total. Greg Weber told me they would have started turning a profit around the 2000th example.

Well maybe we should see who has the highest Serial # on the list.....

Mine is 1450249.........

I have:

1442817
and
1442084

Weber told me that they were not assembled in conecutive order. They just reached in the pile and grabbed any bottom plate...

Supposedly the first 800 assembled had the 'RF won't stay aligned' problem. After that, the offending part was re-engineered.

Of my two...one has 'the problem' - but I still use it - as a WA body....
