Here in socialist Australia inoffensive words are routinely banned on a rotational basis because someone, somewhere takes offence. This keeps the population on its toes, like ballerinas, only more overweight. Conversation can be a minefield for the uninitiated.
Luckily "bloke", "cobber" and "mate" aren't yet banned. Hold on, I think "mate" is on the watch list

Australia has always lead the way in these matters .
Lets hope they continue to do so
Oh ,the word in question is rarely if ever encountered in the UK but we seemingly have others which run foul of the censor.

We have a high profile Social Justice Warrior in Australia who wants to ban the word "guys". (He says its "sexist" and we should use non gender specific descriptors apparently even when the subjects have specific genders - as in they are all doodz.)
But maybe the "D" word is double dirty sexist??? Which means they ain't doodz , so there! They are perzonz.

This reminds me of the silly nonsense that surfaced in some faux-religiously affiliated newspaper's handling of the word "gay". They implemented a search and replace algorithm so any instance of "gay" was replaced with "homosexual". I believe it was an article on athlete Tyson Gay, nee Tyson Homosexual, that did the practice in.

I know of no reference nor have I found any reference to this being an obscene word. The linguistic origin appears to come from the phrase "Yankee Doodle Dandy;' and in the late 19th Century it is a fop. This is the first time that I have heard that this word is prohibited as people use it all the time as a friendly greeting.

OK. Seriously folks. Why is dewd banned? I'm serious. How or where is this word offensive? I'm genuinely curious.
I'm just floored about this. If this is liberalism, I need to start looking into buying a gun
and a flag pole for the front yard (I'm in the US). Maybe get a "build the wall" bumper sticker too. (BTW, in attempt to remain politically neutral, I mean no offense to members who want the wall and advocate sane ownership of guns).
It does sound like I'd be an outright verbal criminal in Australia. I use "guys" all the time to reference men, women, even cats and dogs. I've been known to use "y'all" and "all y'all's" from time to time as well. For example, if I want to ask someone in the coffee shop if that Leica on the table is theirs -- "Beg your pardon, is that there all y'all's camera?"
I taught my son that words have no meaning, offense, affection, or impact until a reader/listener gives it such. In our house, there were no banned words, only "banned" usages. Thus, the word in play could vary widely, but rarely was it an issue (wonder why
). Of course, that's a more difficult policy to implement, and I've noticed the world is filled with simpletons who want the universe to exist in pure "black and white" (oh yeah, a photographic reference!). I have news for them...

For those inquiring minds who can't seem to find something better to do ...
Dude was banned because one of my mods had the habit of addressing RFF members as dude when moderating.
After receiving a complaint, I asked that it stop, but habits can be strong.
My solution was banning dude - that worked.
Dude has now now been unbanned. Njoy the dudeness.

Can we say some folks need to grow up?
My wife was reading a article this past week about some California colleges / universities where words are being banned now if they offend someone. Even literature if it offends. They refer to it as micro-aggression.
What is happening to people!!!
