I recently bought a nice Hi-Matic 7sII, just needed seals replacement.

Here are some pics of the first roll, with Ilford SFX.

The 40/1.7 is very sharp, with a nice bokeh

Just for the last one: B+W deep red filter.

Is it the same Rokkor-QF ("quick focus", I assume - it's very short throw) as on the Minoltina-S and AL-S? That was up to Leica standard and I have a 40" x 30" print from one, which is sharp.

Sadly the RF silvering has corroded on a lot of them* and the leaf shutters can pack up; also the selenium meter rarely lasts the decades.


*quick DIY fix is to clean off the remains and then stick on a piece of the one-way silver film sold for van windows; it works perfectly once you've recalibrated the horizontal adjustment to allow for the small extra thickness.

Sorry, I don't know... but rendering is quite similar to the M-Rokkor 40/2.

Thank you for this tip; so many cameras have a corroded or hazy rangefinder patch...

The one on the Minolta probably is a bit different, and closer to the one on the Hi Matic 7 and 9. I guess the 45/1.7 on the 7 SII has been re calcullated since it's about 15 years newer. Still a wonderful lens on my 1969 HM9!!

A very good 40mm f/1.7 lens. A design collaboration between Leitz and Minolta. The same lens can be found on the Vivitar ES and Revue SE rangefinders.
