I've owned a few Hi matic Es and I find that the battery doesn't last long in the camera. I'm using 2 A76s button cells taped together and use tin foil to complete the connection. Works fine for a few days and when the batteries are left in the camera the power seems to drain.

Anyone noticed the Hi Matic E is a power hungry beast? It has a very fine lens tho'!

I think my Hi-Matic has a meter switch on the lens somewhere (ASA dial?). Are you setting it to 'off', and/or keeping the lens cap on?

I use a single Wein cell in mine, and it's lasting pretty good so far.

Just send me an email. I have fresh quicksilver batteries, these are the ones the hi-matics are happy. Put them in and forget the batteries problem for the next ten years.
I don't sell them expensive, just reasonable. (I know I will not become rich out of this anyhow.)

Put the lens cap on. It acts as a switch for the lightmeter. The lightmeter sucks power from the batteries as long as it has something to meter. No light (cap on), nothing to meter...
