How goes it with the OM-4? You should have had pretty good luck. I put my friend's OM-4 (late model circuitry and best of series Zuiko 50/1.4) on the other day. It's at $255 with 10 bids, 30 watchers, and two days to go. Dumb me. He wanted to sell it to me for $150. Instead of thinking like a businessman, I thought, "What am I going to with it? I've already got a complete Pentax Spotmatic system I rarely use."

Why did Voigtländer call it 'Bessa'? I think Roman has it right, that it sounds like "Besser". Back in the 30's, when the original Bessa was around (folding medium format cameras), Voigtländer also had TLR cameras called 'Brilliant' and 'Superb'. So, 'Bessa' (or Besser) falls into that theme pretty well.

I think it's funny that they ressurrected the Bessa name for the modern camera; to the best of my knowledge, Bessa's were never 35mm cameras (though Bessamatics were). If they wanted a name from Voigtländer's past, they should have chosen 'Vito' - now that does sound masculine, doesn't it!

Richard is right - it is DIE Kamera, feminine, like almost all German nouns ending in an 'a' (which are mostly loan words from other, latinate languages).
It is also die Bessa, die Leica, die Mamiya, etc., but, strangely, der Merceds (masculine) - 'Deutsche Sprache - schwere Sprache!' 😉
