Kully is right. It's a politician protecting his agribusiness donors (from bad publicity). The cow shooter with the Leica is just collateral damage.
Of course it is. But passing stupid laws (which apparently failed in this case) which can only be stupidly enforced should not be tolerated no matter who is "funding" the effort.
Best regards,
Bob

A GOP lawmaker has filed SB 1246, which if enacted would make it a felony to photograph a farm in Florida without consent of the owner. It is apparently aimed at animal rights activists who try to document animal abuse.
Whatever the reason, I am amazed.

I follow our local state (FL) politics closely. I am confident this bill will never even get discussion time in committee. It will get even less consideration than the bill requiring males to wear their pants above their butt cracks.
Now we Floridians have some strange political things happening, but this will not be one of them. Our GOP controlled legislature is too busy trying to reign in our newly elected Tea Party Governor. The Republicans are aligning with the Democrats to deal with the Governor.

I always thought that cows were ok. I understand that I can't take pictures of bridges, railroad stations, government buildings, area 51, children of others, my own children in the bath, ...... but cows? I have some of my best pictures with cows in them - well maybe only one or two. Swiss cows are the best but I live in Florida, so it's a little bit of a trip to go to Europe every time I want to photograph the countryside. But, if that's what I have to do to avoid jail, I'll just have to ... sigh ...
(For those who don't know about area 51 .. Google it ... especially "conspiracy theories"}

Typical FL bs. I take a lot of pics on farms to help farms apply for grants to try to improve their business and create jobs and wealth.
This is ridiculous as getting a notice I put my trash can out too early in Haines City as I left on Monday to work in Louisiana for three weeks and didn't want my wife to stuggle to take it out. They can pay someone to watch that I don't take my trash can to the street 6 hours early but they can't do anything to improve the economy.
All the horse people in FL have business in LA to survive
.
LA doesn't care what I take a pic of or when I put my trash out.

Perfect Example - A great Lawyer Ron filly
Born in FL.
Broke, raised, trained, vet serviced, housed, fed, bedded in LA.
Sold in Miami last week for $225,000
All of the horse-training days economic impact came to LA. Why? FL is legislating so many things out that impact the horse industry when LA is legislating them in. We also haven't completed the new sales facility in LA which is another $4 Million invest FL will NOT get.
This picture is certified to have been taken on a farm outside the State of FL.
Geez!

Just so there is no misunderstanding:
1) there are no Florida state laws regulating what you cannot photograph.
2) any of the 160 members of the FL legislature may introduce a bill. Introduction does not automatically lead to consideration at committee level, much less being voted on.
3) the freedoms guaranteed by the US Constitution still apply in Florida.

Actually the land area of Florida is:
27% farm land
47% timber land
And I don't know what additional percentage is ranch land. I do know there is one 293,000 local ranch. (Mormon ranch) That is 12X the size of the vast Disney land area here.
Agriculture is #2 in Florida's economy, trailing only tourism.

yes crazy **** happens in Florida, but it's still a great state you know. I lived in Gainesville for many years as a child and visit between once and twice a year and I still love it.
people tell me crazy **** happens in every state. maybe... well, maybe it happens more in some states than others.
