I must say that Peter Higgs lends just a little dignity to this very expensive discovery, a dignity which is seriously eroded by the fact that the thing is called a boson. I had hoped the Large Hadron Collider might find something more grandly named. I wonder what is the German for boson — maybe that has a more impressive sound.
Boson is not sexy or German. Its named after this pioneering Indian scientist, Satyendra Nath Bose; also famous for Bose-Einstein statistics.
