Hilla Becher is dead

Hilla Becher, famous photographer from Düsseldorf, Germany, died on saturday, aged 81. She was, together with her husband Bernd, founder of the Dusseldorf School of Photography. Some famous members of that school were Andreas Gursky, Thomas Struth and Thomas Ruff. Becher became well-known as her photographs were shown at the "New Topographics: Photographs of a Man-Altered Landscape" exhibition in 1975.

Sad day, she and Bernd were my favourite photographers.

She and her husband, loved them since I first saw them at Ileana Sonnabend's joint in SOHO.
