Got a HiMatic 9, everything seems to work except its stuck in self timer mode. Shutter will release, and shutter time tracks the speed setting, bulb works too - I just can't get it out of "look ma, I'm a digicam" mode. I had a local shop look at it, he had trouble finding a part it needed. I finally told them no heroic measures on saving my camera.

Is it possible to perform a timerectomy on this camera? I can live without the self timer if it makes my camera work.

What do you mean by Digi-Cam mode? The Hi-Matic 9 will not work on "Auto", ie "AA" on the shutter speed and aperture, when using the self-timer. It only works on manual as it is a trap-needle system that requires the shutter release to be pressed to do the "trapping". Is your self-timer always cutting in?

By digicam mode I meant that it has a 10 second shutter lag. Just being a smart aleck. The self timer lever can't be moved all the way to off, the shutter does release and the time changes with the shutter speed, from very fast to quite slow to bulb. But no matter what you do to it every shutter release is preceeded by ten seconds of whirring.

It HAS to be something stuck!(?) On my properly operating HM-9 the self-timer only stays in position after the camera is cocked and the Shutter and Aperture rings are both moved off of "A". After cocking the camera and setting the self-timer, it cancels by moving either the shutter or aperture onto "A". So, its normal mode is OFF and it can easily be cancelled. It snaps back into the off position via a spring, which I am glad to say that on my HM-9 is not sluggish at all. That camera cost me a whole summer of mowing lawns in 1969.

I would "suggest" a little isopropyl alchohol dripped onto the selftimer lever incase it is dried oil holding it in place. Of course if the repair shop opened it already and told you it was a broken part, that might be futile. It did work on my Konica S2 to loosen up the shutter speed ring.

Thanks. I did try every concievable combination of trying to move the self timer lever with the shutter closed, open, cocked, auto, non auto etc... before I took it in. I expect to get it back next week, at which point I'll look into it myself.
