ok...i know some of you have read the douglas adams series...have you guys seen the movie yet? couple of shots of ford prefect handling a black rangefinder (leica, i think...what else would you save if the earth blew up suddenly...towel..tri-x..oh yeah, the leica) with a neato looking leather satchel... 🙂

Haven't seen the movie yet but I loved the TV series. If the Vogons were coming I'd grab my Olympus OM-1, quickly mount the 35/2.8 and fill my pockets with Tri-X for my meeting with Slarti Barfast. I like fjords too...

I first listened to it as a radio play in the 70's, then read the novels in the 80's, then saw the TV production (cheesy, campy effects and some excellent acting), and am now looking forward to the movie. Still, the books are the best ... same as Tolkien.

I saw the movie on Friday.. didn't catch the part with Ford handling a camera

honestly, I was rather disappointed in the movie, even tho it was a good attempt at putting the book onto the silver screen.. I know that if I hadn't read the book, half of the movie wouldn't make any sense to me.. but having read the book several times, and being able to quote it freely, the movie mostly just invoked memories, rather than entertained me in its own right

what I found very interesting was that hardly any of the actors matched up with my image of the characters.. Trillian was WAY off.. Dent was only vaguely similar.. he actually comes across as sort of a hero in the movie, whereas he's a bumbling idiot in the books.. and Ford was completely different in some ways, and exactly as I imagined in others.. so that just make me scratch my head

Sam Rockwell (Zaphod Beeblebrox) was almost exactly as I imagined the character, ironically

all in all, the movie was interesting.. but if you really like the book, you'll probably think the movie is only ok at best.. and if you haven't read the books, skip the movie and read the whole series.. then maybe rent the movie a year from now

You know, I did this with another movie recently. A man was holding a Rolleicord and I actually named the camera before I could see the name. I'm the type of person who goes looking for stuff like that in movies.

Last night I saw the documentary "Born Into Brothels," where a Western photographer living in Calcutta's red-light district for a project gives cameras and photography lessons to some children there, to see what they see. The first camera on screen, though, is the photographer, Zana Briski, and her Leica RF.

I don't even know anything about cameras, but I got all geeky and nudged my girlfriend to tell her that was an RF. That, on top of earlier in the night we were in a coffeehouse and I called what kind of headphones this guy in there was wearing (Sennheiser 280 a little rare to see that kind of can in Little Rock).

ok, now I'm officially a rangefinder geek.. I was watching Under The Tuscan Sun tonight, and there's a scene where a guy pulls out his camera to commemorate the completion of their renovation of the villa.. I immediately said "hey, nice Kiev!"

Probably because of the publicity created by the movie BBC2 television in the U.K. has started re-showing the TV Hitch-Hikers Guide from Tuesday this week & BBC Radio 4 is currently running the third (last) series on Tuesday nights at 6.30pm U.K. time. I love picking movies to bits, it drives everyone crazy. One camera related one recently was in the first Spiderman movie. Peter Parker uses a SLR, which happened to be an early Canon, possibly an AE-1. He starts shooting away at one point like it is motor driven, but the camera he used didn't have a motor wind attached.

I also spotted quite a few Graflex Press cameras in the Porky's movies, which were run on cable TV one night here a few weeks ago. All my friend could do was sit and shake his head and mutter something about me being weired under his breath.
