Dear All:
Continued from my previous post, I had taken the plunge, sold my Hasselblad kit and bought an M8 already. However, I am either very unlucky or lucky, as M8 suffered from Shutter Fault exactly after a week of purchase. That was a month ago.
As the M8 was under the dealer's warranty, M8 was taken back by the dealer and sent to their repair personnel, I phoned two weeks after sending the camera, and the dealer told me the repairer can not handle it and it had gone to Leica UK, and may take a few more weeks as they are not known for its efficiency.
So....I had waited for another 2 weeks, which is yesterday. I e-mailed the dealer and there is no reply, which I am gonna try phone tomorrow.
And here comes the twist, I e-mail Leica UK yesterday at midnight, providing the serial of the camera, and explain about my situation, wanting to know what is going on with my M8. Leica UK reply lighting fast this morning, telling me the camera with my serial is not in their record, and not likely to be with them. So I try to check with the serial on Leica German website with Repair tracking, and there is no result as well. If the camera is not in Leica UK or German, hmm...where is it?
I begin to suspect, the camera is still with the dealer, and they are waiting for a used black M8 to come then send that to me as the replacement as they don't want to deal with the repair cost of M8?
Anyway, I am gonna phone them and find out tomorrow. Does anyone have similar experiences or encounter?
Its really annoying, as I had just began to enjoy the digital rangefinder experience and it broke down, it was the low point of my life last month.
The lesson learned is: if buying a Mechanical M, any reputable dealer will do, when it comes to Digital, it is better to deal with the Genuine Leica dealers...

If a camera breaking down has been the low point of your life, I salute you! And am envious.

Considering what you've got invested in the M8, I think I wouldn't call but go in person to find out where your camera is.

well, I kind of take the leap of faith to transfer from purely shooting film to digital, so it was a great disappointment to me when M8 breaks.

I am going down to London this Friday, and will be dropping in if the answer is not satisfying enough.

Hmmm, Very sorry to hear of your situation. Can I ask, out of interest, which camera shop you are dealing with?

Simon

Film, the next evolution.
Could be worse.
I need to buy a Sewage Treatment System costing £7000.
I was just about to pay for it, then noticed on the net that the company went into receivership 6 months ago.:bang::bang::bang::bang:

Its a dealer based in London, but I don't want to revealed it as maybe I had wrong them, but will keep things updated.

Hope you turn out to find another replacement, cheaper and better

My experience of leica UK is that they will not ship your camera until they have a reasonable consignment. When they have a full batch they send them together. My guess is it is somewhere on the leica slow boat. It will turn up eventually.Dear All:

I lost around 3 months of my M8 going back and fourth to Germany. I absolutely will not look at an M9 until there is a service facility in the UK.
I hope it gets fixed soon.

Why don't you ask for a refund?

Not entitled to one under UK law, as he has clearly accepted the goods by using the camera. If he had returned the camera unopened then a refund would have followed.
The retailer must offer a repair or replacement - it's a slight grey area AFAIK but I think the retailer can insist on attempting a repair rather than a replacement, rather than the buyer demanding a replacement immediately.

Just a quick update to the situation,
The dealer said the camera repairmen is on honeymoon at the moment, will be back next week, they had left few messages regarding the camera, will let me know asap. As for the reply with no trace of M8 in internet, they reply the repairmen had friends in Leica UK and may have the camera jump the queue. Which I still have doubt.
Meanwhile, I had asked one of my sold Hasselblad camera to be lend to me until M8 was fixed, and the Hasselblad arrived safely. This should keep me under for a while. Maybe the repairmen had taken my M8 to his Honeymoon
To: sanmich
I had though of that first, but the dealer convince me they will cover all the cost even if sent to Leica, but I never expect to be this long.

Thanks for the expertise, I hope the camera will come back very soon, serviced by Leica and ready to go...
The support from the forum is really warm! Thanks for listening to me whining.
