Dear All:
Continued from my previous post, I had taken the plunge, sold my Hasselblad kit and bought an M8 already. However, I am either very unlucky or lucky, as M8 suffered from Shutter Fault exactly after a week of purchase. That was a month ago.
As the M8 was under the dealer's warranty, M8 was taken back by the dealer and sent to their repair personnel, I phoned two weeks after sending the camera, and the dealer told me the repairer can not handle it and it had gone to Leica UK, and may take a few more weeks as they are not known for its efficiency.
So....I had waited for another 2 weeks, which is yesterday. I e-mailed the dealer and there is no reply, which I am gonna try phone tomorrow.
And here comes the twist, I e-mail Leica UK yesterday at midnight, providing the serial of the camera, and explain about my situation, wanting to know what is going on with my M8. Leica UK reply lighting fast this morning, telling me the camera with my serial is not in their record, and not likely to be with them. So I try to check with the serial on Leica German website with Repair tracking, and there is no result as well. If the camera is not in Leica UK or German, hmm...where is it? 😕
I begin to suspect, the camera is still with the dealer, and they are waiting for a used black M8 to come then send that to me as the replacement as they don't want to deal with the repair cost of M8?
Anyway, I am gonna phone them and find out tomorrow. Does anyone have similar experiences or encounter?🙄
Its really annoying, as I had just began to enjoy the digital rangefinder experience and it broke down, it was the low point of my life last month.
The lesson learned is: if buying a Mechanical M, any reputable dealer will do, when it comes to Digital, it is better to deal with the Genuine Leica dealers...
