Holgas (regular & pinhole!) go to Scotland...

Hello, this is my first post in this forum, but certainly not the last! 😀

These have been shot with a Holga regular and a Holga pinhole panoramic camera during my recent trip to Scotland.

Here they come, first the Holga, all on Tri-X 400:

I actually think that there is a place for these cameras in one's bag - they weight just about nothing, and they offer some nice creative opportunities...

Very nice images I particulary like 'relic'. its unfortunate that the Holga pinhole camera displays that vignetting this is caused by the recess the pinhole sits in not the lens cap ring as I found out when I ground mine off 🙂
Even so at 6x12 there is a enough meat to crop.

I'm not sure which are the worst - Holga or pinhole!, but think what nice clear, detailed pictures you would have - of that trip, if you had taken a decent camera and lens!. This is just my opinion of course, many think flat, fuzzy, detail-less pictures are beautifull!....Sorry!

Thank you Timo - I own the regular 120 Holga, no flash, no glass lens, just your basic model; I use it handheld, loaded it with Tri-X 400 which I develop in 510-Pyro. All the rest, well, I just compose and click the shutter, Holga doesn't let you choose much more options than that 😀

Thank you! Indeed I was quite unsure wether to crop the vignette or leave it as it is, but I felt in the end that it would add to the "pihnole-peephole" feeling, and cropping would have looked too much like a "regular" panoramic shot...

Thank you for your honest opinion, Dave - though I have to say it sounds a bit strange to read it in a forum dedicated, well, to Holga & pinhole cameras: it sounds to me a bit like going to the Toyota forum and complain that everyone talks about Toyota and people could drive faster in a Ferrari 😀 Besides the slight surprise in reading your comment here, generally I might add the obvious, that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and quote Ansel Adams saying "there is nothing worse than a sharp picture of a fuzzy concept"...

By the way, I had a few more cameras with me that gave me nice, clear and detailed pictures (Nikon D3, various Leicas, Hasselblad X-Pan), which I will slowly develop/process and post eventually. Using the one medium doesn't not exclude the other, IMHO, and I normally use more than 1 camera for a given job to get different looks and feels. To each his own I guess! Thanks again for commenting, that was interesting 😀

I like the regular Holga 120 shots, the sharp center/fuzzy sides "Holga Effect" works well with the subjects! I'm not so sure about putting the focal point in the fuzzy region of the shot, though, as in "Niest Point." It seems to me that Holga shots work best when their subjects are centrally composed in the sharp region. Great stuff otherwise!

your Holga shots have a wonderful mood to them which works very well with the Scottish subject matter. I particulary like the sunken trawler and the scottish castles.

You have used the soft edges very well here well done

I considered buying a Holga for my recent Newfoundland trip but ultimately decided against it. Now I'm thiking it wouldn't have hurt to do a few rolls.
