Holy cow, my Photomic FTn meter works, and seems to be in calibration.
Not bad for a 29 year old meter.

I'm a Canon user from way back but I absolutely loved my Nikon FTn and that meter was a huge part of the reason why.

Anything that takes up that much real estate better work!
I'm glad. They don't make 'em like they used to, eh?

I have two FTn meters and one of them still works. Did they really still make them in '82?Holy cow, my Photomic FTn meter works, and seems to be in calibration.

The F with an FTn is the best and toughest SLR ever......close behind is the Nikkormat.

I have two of them that work great. I had to clean the drum resistor on one. Just opened it up and used a little contact cleaner. I live the FTN's - still do a great job for me.

I used lighter fluid on a cotton bud to clean both mine and they work perfectly.
If the meter needle is jumpy then this is the way to fix it. Very easy DIY job.

Quick: send it back. There's something wrong with it if it's still working today!
Personally, I'm impressed with 1950s Weston Masters, though not so much with later ones.

I always disliked the metering prisms for the F, so I never bothered with them.
I got myself an old DE-1 with a small chip out of the prism for next to nothing from dugwerks about a million years ago and have used it ever since on my F.
I'm pretty sure I have at least one FTn prism still sitting in a drawer that I'll never use, so if anyone needs one lemme know and we'll talk.

Both my FTn meters still work. I did have them cleaned and adjusted for use with 1.5v batteries about ten years ago though. Wonderful machines, the F's, with or without the brutish looking meter finders on top.
