Holy cr@p shipping outside of Canada is expensive.
I just checked how much it would take to send a Nikon F pentaprism to China, because I'm running an ebay auction and my first bidder was from China.
$43 to mail to China ? ? ? ? ? ? ?
Rules out that market for low priced items.

Eye opener isn't it. Another thing you never do is send an item to Australia from Canada by regular mail. It can take 3 months to get there, trust me.

don't trust the online calculation. it's wildly inaccurate.
also, consider sending your stuff via purolator instead of canada post. if you open an account with purolator you may find the rates are very reasonable - much much less than you're probably thinking.
but yeah, canada posts' service and rates are terrible. i feel lucky to have japan post where delivery is 7 days a week and sending items overseas is very cheap.
