Home made film take-up spool for Kiev

I picked up a used Kodak film cartridge from a local photo lab and made a take-up spool using the instructions on this website:

Just out of curiosity, I took the inside spool out of an Ilford cassette and compare it against an original Contax take-up spool...

Obviously the original spool has the straight slots with the tooth for grabbing hold of a perferation, quite different from the inclined cut as described in that webpage, there is also a more obvious difference. The Ilford spool has flanges measuring a little more than 21mm, while the Contax take-up has its at a little more than 24mm. I am not sure if flange diameter would make any difference since I never had the need to improvise, but then the straight slot with a tooth sure makes things easier!

I just made one of these too, for a 1959 Kiev 4a. Seems to work perfectly.

Great minds think alike, I made two, one for my KievIII and a back up in case I do something dumb and loose the Contax spool. One of my local lab contacts thought I was nuts until I explained what I had in mind.
