I just finished converting I61 to Kiev mount. I made some test shots also. Tell me what do you think about it.

That's an interesting exercise and I applaud your ingenuity and skill, however, with all the great lenses available in Kiev/Contax mount (which include the Zeiss Sonnars), I have to ask: why bother? Does this new lens give you better results than, say, the $12 Helios 103?

You are an artist. How do you feel the mechanics, smooth? I mean, do you think that a non initiated would think that the lens was born in contax mount? Next step: a howto convertyourlenstocontaxmount by numbers...

To me the shots look a lot like those from 3.5 Elmar, so it looks like a great way to bring Leica glow to Contax for cheap 🙂

I have an extra Jupiter 8 lens in Kiev mount. Could you use it? It's free to you.

I was going to do this very same project about a year ago but decided not to bother. The I-61 has a nice look but I found that after shooting one on a FED and Bessa R that I prefer the old Jupiter 8M's Sonnar look. I guess I don't like the Elmar glow <hah>. If you are using a Kiev then this is the only way to get the look of this lens.

The results are worth it, you have to be commended. The lens is a nice lens, has a nice glow and is pretty sharp.

I'd be tempted if I had the tools to.

One can (or could) still get the Helios as new for 'resonable' cost and Frank free J8 If it is not a J8M is a collectors piece of sorts in the UK. Post would be expensive though.

My Helios needs internal black paint but still performs resonably with a hood.

thanks for j8 offer but i got my kiev with j8m so its better to give it to someone who needs it. when i spoke about lack of money i thout about zeiss lenses.

ill try to convert enlarger lens I 50u next but i need some more work for that.
