Fan Ho (1931-2016)

Dubbed the ‘Cartier-Bresson of the East’, Fan Ho the photography master, passed away at age 84 due to pneumonia on Sunday, 19 Jun 2016 in San Jose, United State. Fan Ho earned his fame of capturing Hong Kong in the 50s and 60s. His technique of merging salon and documentary in black and white photo is praised by all people. His passing away is a great loss to the field of photography in Hong Kong. HKIPF would like to express the deepest respects to Fan Ho and extends our sincere sympathy to his family.

A sad loss: Fan Ho had a wonderful eye and appreciation of light. His photographs are sublime.

Fan Ho was one of the greats. I am reminded that only 2 years ago another great, Saul Leiter, passed away. Neither got the recognition they deserved until far too late in their lives. One a master of light and shadow, the other a master of color and form.
