Hong Kong - Umbrella Revolution by Leica M3

Thank you for the kind words.

Last batch of the actual protests and protesters.
These are the 35 frames I liked from the 130 clicks I've done in Hong Kong. There are about another 10 or so images that were taken at the same time but not around the Demonstration. I may post them later, for now I hope you enjoy the last batch.

Well done, Ben! I am planning to visit Hong Kong in around Christmas with my M3 and Summitar. Will be great if we can meet up and chat on photography, gears, etc. PM me please, if it works.

Hey John,

I live in Tokyo and was there only for a week's worth of business.

Hong Kong is a great city with tons of film shooters, start a thread about your visit a week prior and I am sure you'll find people to show you around.

Also try to visit some of the shops, Hong Kong has some great vintage gear.

And if you are ever in Tokyo, let's do that meeting!

Have fun,
Ben

Thanks for the suggestions, Ben! I used to work in Tokyo for two years. Will reach out when I return for a visit, perhaps in late 2015 or early 2016.

Wow, this is great work. Hong Kong is a country close to my heart, having been there a few times for holidays over the years and just loving it. You have a great eye and sense of composition. I also like some of the sneaky photos of people sleeping in the street!

But what struck me the most was the semi-smiling police officer. It seemed like a genuine smile, too, not fake or forced. It brought another layer of meaning to the protests in just one image.

Hello there,

Thank you for the kind words.
While there I talked to quite a lot of officers as I was there every night in Mong Kok during my week long business trip.

The officers were all very positive / polite and kind, did nothing but protect the safety of the demonstrators, sometimes from the gangs and other times from pro-government protesters.

I felt completely safe all throughout and the policemen always remained very approachable. I know in some other countries, I wouldn't even dare striking up a conversation with them....

Hong Kong is also very close to my heart, I have been there some 20 or so times and will continue going back whenever I can.

Thanks for looking!
Ben
