Maybe I'm missing something, but I dont' see much negative to this. Strikes me as a kind of crowd-sourced "Family of Man" for the current age.

Taking a picture of somebody and writing a little something about them is hardly a unique or original idea. Certainly not copyrightable or patentable at this point - although possibly the phrase "Humans of New York" could be trademarked.
