hello all,
i am getting hold of a Summaron 35/3.5 of 1958 vintage; and i would like to hear your advice on getting a hood for it
there is this IROOA, and 12585(H) which i believe is also a possibility
have i overlooked some other options or bargains work-around out there?
any comment or experience to share, in terms of usability?
i note that the Summaron is so cutishly small and one of my concerns is whether these hoods might obstruct the actual handling of the focus/aperture throw?
thanks & hope to hear from you soon

The 12585 and 12585H will *not* fit the collapsible 35/3.5 Summaron. It will fit all other Summarons, including the ones with goggles. I'm pretty sure it won't obstruct anything it fits.

I have a 35mm/3.5, which takes A36 filters. I got a trashed filter, knocked out the glass, and glued it to a modified B+W rubber 39mm hood. With the hood attached, it's slightly more troublesome to set the aperture, but it does not affect ease of focussing. (On my Summaron it is necessary to set the aperture first, with the focus locked at infinity.)

I have the latest model summaron 35/3.5, I use the IROOA (it clips/snaps on) and it doesn't interfere with focus or apeture rings. The IROOA also fits the older 50 Summicrons, does yours have goggles?

I use a Fison on my Summaron and it works fine. I have also heard of people buying old unwanted Leitz clamp on filters, knocking out the glass and using it as a hood without problem.

There is nothing "collapsable" about the Summaron 35/3.5, they are just very compact and can be good performers. I reaaly enjoy mine for that reason. I can't say anything about hoods because I have not got one. Hope you really enjoy that Summaron.

The IROOA and ITOOY are wrong and won't fit. You need a hood the same as Back Alley Joe's, I can't remember the number, but I've got one somewhere.........

Well I've just found it.......it's marked 'summaron-elmar 3.5cm'.....
the nice thing about it is that it takes a standard 42mm cap on the front of the hood, so you don't have to take the hood off to cap the lens for dust exlusion.
I wonder if Back Alley Joe knows that.........

i didn't measure the hood but i had a cap handy that fit so when the lens is stored i use it.

i try...
sugar is good, she had a good run yesterday at an off leash area. (went with a friend, not me)
surprisingly, the weather is very nice for here for this time of the year.
usually by halloween there is snow but we are still in + temps and just wearing light coats.

Really? Even the one he linked to? It looks just like the old collapsible Elmar, on which the collapsible Industar-22 is based.Nikon Bob said:There is nothing "collapsable" about the Summaron 35/3.5
In any case, I'm going to stick with my claim that the snap-on 12585 (H) won't fit this lens, because evidently there is no groove on the focus ring to accommodate it.
OTOH, the 12585 (H) *will* fit the more modern-looking 35/3.5 Summaron (click for pic).

Nikon Bob is right. There are no collapseable 35's, only 50's and 90's
