hood choice for ZM 25mm 2.8

Zeiss offers two compatible hoods for their 25mm biogon- are there any functional differences between them?
The rectangular hood is compatible with the 21mm as well as 25mm lens, and the round metal hood is compatible with the 28mm as well as 25mm lens. I do not intend to purchase either the 28mm or 21mm lens so the inter-compatibility is irrelevant. I like the appearance of the round 25/28mm hood, and it seems like it would offer more impact protection, but are there any functional differences between these offerings? Does one hood interfere with the viewfinder (internal or external) more than the other? Does one do a better job of handling light?

i bought the square hood with my 25 thinking it would help make identifying one lens from another easier. and it does, i can feel inside my bag and feel the shape and know it's the 25.
the hood seems to work fine and does it's job well.
if i had it to do over i would get the round one though as i have grown to prefer the look of the round hoods on the zm lenses.
otherwise i doubt there is much difference in use.

I use the round hood on both the 25 and the 21/4,5. Works great on the latter and does not vignette.

Good to hear the round hood works on the 21, I've got that one and find too much RF patch interference when focus gets close, plus a lot of VF interference. I'd go for the round one- I believe a 62mm Nikon lenscap fits on it too- is this right?

I discovered that the Contax hood and UV filter for my G series 28mm lens also fits the ZM 28mm without vignetting, so when I sold my G2 camera and lenses I kept both. The hood is a solid round shape that slightly projects into the bottom corner of the finder, but its not a big deal. Ideally I'd like a real zeiss hood, but this is a cheap alternative that works for me.

I use the round one. The way the Zeiss lenscap works, it is still easy to use with the hood in place.

You won't need the hood very often on the ZM 25, for, as with all 3 biogons that I own, the ZM 25 is amazingly flare resistant.

I agree with thomasw_ here -- I don't have a hood for my 25, but I've not yet seen a hint of flare, even in quite difficult conditions (Australia isn't exactly sunlight-poor!) 🙂

Does the 21/2.8 share this flare-resistance? I'd love to go circumsize that one.
