What's the best hood for the [FONT=Verdana, sans-serif]90/2.8 Tele-Elmarit Thin version? I have searched the old threads but some of the links were dead. I'd appreciate if anyone can tell me the link on ebay (heavystar?) or the types of the hood.
Thanks

Or #12575N, rigid, reversible mount. For 1:4.5/135, 1:4/135, 1:2.8/90, and 1:4/90.

Or anything with a 39mm screw thread, the deeper the better.

Thanks Steve and Chris. I forgot to mention that I have the original rubber hood but it doesn't work very well. I am actually looking for a generic metal hood.
Does this one work okay, anyone has any experience? http://tinyurl.com/2qskv4

That looks a lot like the #12575N in shape; I'm sure it would work very well. Heavystar is a good supplier, too. I have bought several items from him and have more on order at the moment.

Thanks Chris. I have dealt with heavystar many times and I just want to make sure to get the right hood. :D

Thanks again,

L.

12575 fits and its the best choice on all of the E39 90mm and 135mm lenses. Clamps on quickly, reverses, takes the 14033 "lens cap" for the reversed shade, offers the most effective flare protection.

Yes, as with ChrisN, it seems like the 12575(N), but no clamp... YMMV, but between the Leica and HeavyStar mentioned, the depth is good for both... now it's a matter of money and the clamp v. screw-fit.

I've been using the 12575N... it's a slighted, but mighty 90, that T-E!

A clip-on hood is more protective than a screw-in one which can damage the filter thread of your lens in case of drop or bump of the latter.
Here the same 'thin' Tele-Elmarit 90/2.8 with #12575 metal and #12517 rubber hoods and IR-cut filters:

Thanks guys. I found one 12575 in a local store for a good price but the hood I got from heavystar has already shipped....well, I guess I will just keep both.
btw...the rubber hood is pretty much useless and I wonder why they design such a thing at the first place.

Over time the rubber hood gets less and less flexible and eventually starts to crack. Hood #12575 that LCT shows above is by far the best solution for the thin TE. It also fits other lenses like the 135/4 TE.

Got it for free in the package when i purchased the lens in 1979 or so. Not that useless IMHO but given that the TE is seriously prone to flare, the #12575 metal hood is indeed a better option.

Yeah. I think the rubber hood is too small to be effective, especially the 90/2.8 TE is known for its prone to flare.

my original #12517 rubber hood for this lens ripped along where it folds.
I will only get a metal one next time around.

I use nthe 12575. While there are shorter hoods that can be used, the TE is flare-prone, so the longest hood is the best choice. It makes the lens seem less compact when in use, but it can be reversed when not in use. Might as well get all the performance the lens has to offer, and that calls for the 12575.
