Hood for cron

Hi Looking into getting a round metal hood for a 35mm cron , between the Leica part 12504 or the 12585 . Is one better over the other ? Is there a cap for the 12504 . Will the cap from the 12585 work on the 12504 ? Will the hood fit inside the leather case that comes with the 35cron ser 4 ?

12504 is great, since you can use it with 49mm filters. Also, on earlier cron's (v3), 12585 vignettes slightly. Not sure about 12585H. The text on the 12585 does not list the 35/2, BTW.

On my v3 neither can be reversed, since blocked by the focusing tab. So the cap won't be of use.

Hmm, are there different versions of the 12585? My 12585 lists six lenses, one of them is the 1:2/35. I haven't noticed any vignetting on my v3, either. But maybe I just haven't noticed it.

Yes, Antti, there are, including the 12585H. Vignetting with mine only happens when closed down enough and focused at inf. On negative film, of course.

I would recommend the 12504 - it is designed specifically for most pre-asph 35mm Summilux lenses and virtually all 35mm Summicrons. Only the very early Summilux will not take them.

The 12504 is non reversible regardless and all 35mm Summicrons take 39mm (or E39) filters - not 49. The 12504 is designed to unscrew for series VII drop-in filters, but the 39mm filters will work as long as the shade has no filter in it.
