I've tried searching for the answer to this, of course, but opinions on the web seem to be contradictory.
Which hoods will work without vignetting on a summicron version 3?
12585 or 12585h? Or is it only the ludicrously expensive (too expensive..) 12504? Or a.n. other?
I've just been lucky enough to get one, in beautiful condition. But no hood attached.....

My own experience is that the 12585 can show some vignetting, so I prefer the 12504 (which I was lucky enough to buy for a decent price from a fellow RFF'er).

Ok, thank you... That's a blow, not seen a cheap one of those.

Hi JP,
Unfortunately both 12585 and 12585h vignette.
1) I have good experience without hood since the v3 front element is deeply recessed.
2) As you say 12504 is expensive. There are well-made replicas though, see 180724802012@ebay, for instance.

I have a v4 35mm Summicron and it came with the small rectangular hood (12526) (Photo here http://www.kenrockwell.com/leica/35mm-f2-asph.htm). While that hood works fine and is tiny (which I suppose is an advantage). Even if that hood fits on the V3 lens I could not recommend it due to price (around $150). In any event for me, I think I actually prefer the round vented 12585 hood. Aesthetically it looks better and it does the job. I had not noticed it vignetting on that lens (which may be due to it being a V4 not a V3 lens). I have used after market ones as well and they work fine.

You might be surprised when stopping the lens down and shooting at infinity.

I've been using an ITDOO on my 8 element cron. The main reason being that a beater ITDOO seemed to be the cheapest option around. It works well and I can put a cheapo 52mm pinch cap to cover the top.

Ferider,
Thanks for your noticed. Yes, I also got some problem to use hood 12585 (w/o H) with V3 when set lens in max aperture and focus at infinity.

I use the version 3 Summicron 35 lens and I have the 12585 hood. I had not noticed any vignetting before.
Now that I know about this issue, I will check when using max aperture and focusing at infinity.
Thanks Roland for alerting me to this issue when using this hood.

I wonder why no one has mentioned IROOA?
No problem using with v1, v2 and v3.

I bought a replica of the 12504 hood.
I've had it for a year, and I haven't noticed any vignetting so far. I'll going to double check and test it at ƒ22 & ∞ this week.

I have the 12585 - came with my 50mm, vignetted on my 35mm. I just filed it down - done and done.

Thank so much guys.
The plot thickened last week because I saw a user 12585 when I dropped into the red dot store in London. The lovely fellow in there assured me it'd be perfect, no vignetting... So I caved and got it. Shouldn't have believed it.
