Is there anyone who makes a generic bayonet-style hood that will fit on the Zeiss 28mm Biogon? I bought one on KEH and doubt it comes with a hood...then I checked the price on the hood...$69, good god! Suggestions welcome.

Try it first without the hood... I found that the Biogon controlled flare really well (plus the hood makes it stick out more so). If the purpose was to protect the lens though then yeah... go ahead.

Hoods for wide angles? Save your money.

Hoods for wide angles? Save your money.

The cheapest way to go is get one for the Contax model. You can get the after market Chinese variety for around $15 on eBay. They are about as useful as a filter adapter or those silly joke hoods that commonly come with cheap CVs. I bought one of those first.

Then I bought the full dollar Zeiss vented bayonet hood and its about 25% better than the worthless screw in/CV type.

Hoods for lenses 28 and wider is throwing money in the toilet. A light source even at nine and three o'clock can be an issue, and the best hood will only save you for at best 5 degrees of shade. They're only about 1/4 to 3/8 inches wide, go figure!

I'm a slow learner, so do better than me and learn from my mistakes.

Now all those folks with rectangular hoods can start dreaming up the advantages that square holes have over round ones, but I'm not buying into that vanity either.
