The filter is the culprit when using the hood on the M-Hex 28/2.8.
It's a bit overkill using a filter and a hood and the Konica designers thought so too!

Another possibility is that over time you can get differently shaped hoods that may also have slightly different dimensions too. Below are two heavystar 46W hoods. I don't recall seeing any vignetting from my 28, I'm sure I would have noticed it...

I'd highly recommend getting this lens with the original hood. They're a match made in heaven. No vignetting with original hood, and Leica UV/IR filter.

I apparently have the model on the left, and use B+W filters like you do, and clearly have vignetting.
It might take me some time, but as soon as I put my hands on a lathe, I'll give it a try.

I now only have two of the one on the right, which were earlier purchases than the one on the left. I'd show you a full frame pic from my 28, but I'm in the process of recovering approx 5000 .CHK image files from a FAT32 disk that crashed. Don't ask... 😉

Well the 28mm stuff is among the 5000. OT - It's not a disaster as I'm slowly recovering the files but it will take days. I've reformatted all of my remaining FAT32 drives to NTFS.

OK I found one. This looks like crap but it's untouched except for resizing from the scanned whole neg tiff file. Looks like I was using chromogenic film...

I do see some vignetting there. Am I right?
How much cropping was involved?

No cropping at the scanning stage Michael, the whole neg is scanned as I said. I agree that the bottom looks like it's vignetting, but why not the top as well? I'm up to about exp 26 on a current roll so I'll put the 28 on for the last 2-3 shots and shoot something suitable at f2.8.

Thanks for trying this, but if I understood correctly, the worst situation should be at closed aperture, when the DOF is greater.
Not sure what is the worst case in terms of distance setting. Maybe the closest, so the focus is as close as possible to the hood itself.

I newly acquired a nice copy of Konica M-Hexanon 28mm and I must say that the original hood is really a smart design. However, I also would like to get a cap for the hood. Is 62mm correct size for the hood? Are you using a cap for the hood itself? I rather have the hood on the lens all the time, but I am also looking for a cap...

what size cap would work, while the OD is 62mm at the edge, it tapers larger, so I'd guess a cover cap for the hood would have to be soft, or snap-in, let me know what you end up with. I'll try a few things I have around.

OK Michael here are two test frames on the light table, focus is on the telegraph pole, left neg is at f2.8 and right neg is at f22. I can see a very small amount of vignetting in the lower left and lower right corners in the right neg. So my hood does vignette very slightly at f22:
I've never seen vignetting from this hood before but given that I don't think I've ever used it at an aperture smaller than f8 probably explains why. To give you a side-on look at the shape of my hood here it is on the 28, with its B+W MRC UV filter. Hope this helps. 🙂

I have a tiny bit more vignetting than you.
maybe a small difference in the hood length or filter thickness.
In any case, I still plan to get a new wide hood from heavystar and take a few milimeters from it...

I agree about the designers' thinking. Same for the 50/2.4 hood. It's a pity, because I'm one of those overkill types.
