Today's mail contained a long-awaited package from Oleg. He replaced the curtains in my 1937 FED NKVD. Now it's about as smooth and quiet as a Leica from the same period. In the same package was a Zorki3 with flash synch that I had spotted on Oleg's site. Again, a smooth operating camera. The process from putting it in the mail to getting it back was nearly two months so it's not the thing for someone needing immediate gratification. But he does good work. Now I've got to get my "Red" Zorki 5 to him and a postwar FED 1 that is a beauty but needs curtains.

someone told me that the early feds dont take screw mount lenses, or dont focus properly. Is this true?

BTW, I got a zorki 1 from oleg not too long ago and its pretty great although soon after I decided to get a bessa R so it hasnt been getting too much use. I figure Ill use it as a beater camera, for trips to dangerous locations.

Hi,
As I understand it, the Fed 1's were matched with their lenses when they were made and so the focus may be out with another lens. I haven't tried it yet but you should be able to collimate the body the get the right flange/fim distance (I know Aki sells the spacers to do this). You could them collimate the lens and then everything should be interchangeable. They the normal LTM lenses do fit.

Regards
Kim
