'hoot' has got a picture published...

Congrats, Hoot!
See, we don't need no steenkin' unpronouncable mamiblad to be a pro shooter and make a living!!
Seriously, how does one hook up with people who buy photos like that?

Robin

How wonderful for you!

May there be many more in your future!

Awww... you guys are so sweet. 🙂 What a lovely surprise. Thanks!

What *Roman* is too timid to mention is that without his valuable help in lighting the provisional studio and operating the Kiev (to which I was a newbie at the time), this photo would never have happened.

As a matter of fact, it wouldn't be false modesty to say that all I did was release the shutter - Roman really did all the rest - even adjusting the Kiev with a screwdriver during the shoot, crouching next to the model with a reflector, setting up different lighting for different shots, providing his own equipment (flashes, lenses, etc.) and consoling the distraught photographer when a roll of medium format film cascaded right out of the camera.

Yeah, it was a fun shoot. To my 14-year-old cousin it was his very first modelling job, but he seems to be a natural, and was quite accommodating to my capricious requests. His mother and little brother were helpful observers, and the author, who flew in to be present at the shoot, acted as artistic director and took care of all the difficult decisions.

To avoid any misunderstandings, I do *not* make a living with this. The book's author is another one of my best friends, and so there was never really any question about who would be responsible for the cover photo. I've also done a CD booklet photo for another friend, but am not quite at the stage of being cont(r)acted by strangers yet.

Nah, you're exaggerating - just the usual star-photographer - assistant interaction... (the assistant does the dirty work behind the scenes, until the artist is ready to press the shutter...) 😉

Having seen your people portraits, I can safely say that you can do an excellent job on both sides of the fence.

Shouldn't we be fondling our cameras rather than each other's egos?
