Query: since my brilliant plan to convert a Horseman 4x5 to 6x12 back for the SW612 failed (weirdly, the mounting plates are identical except for overall height but but have a 0.5mm(!) thickness difference), I have an extra Horseman 6x12/4x5 back on my hands. I could always modify this to fit my Silvestri H, but...

Has anyone used a 6x12 back with an Alpenhause 900/110B? I was thinking maybe with some kind of screamingly sharp 135 or 150mm Fujinon or Nikkor lens on a Copal 0. But it's hard to gauge how unwieldy that might be with a roll holder bulge on the back - especially if you're left-eyed. Also, I'd almost have to think it would be better to have Steve set it up so that a Silvestri-sized 6x12 back (essentially a cut-down Horseman 6x12 back for 4x5) would fit more inside the original footprint of the camera. The chances of my actually shooting 4x5 in the future are slim and none.

I also wonder about framing 6x12 with a VF designed for 3x4. Anyone actually use the RF/VF for framing 6x12? It would be awesome to shoot "widescreen" medium format with a rangefinder with a normalish lens, but not if it becomes a super-expensive exercise in frustration.

Thanks,
Dante

I use a horseman 6x12 back on a Chamonix Saber, and use the internal VF/RF for framing, focus and composition. I am left eyed. It is a little awkward with the bulge there for the back (have to sort of tilt one's head a little bit), but overall it works well, is a great format and nicely portable. The horseman 6x12 is the best 6x12 back I think (except maybe Techno rollex, but those are crazy $).

Horseman does not work on my Alpenhaus 900, I assume it's the same back. If you took the GG off and rubberband the back on it might work but that's a pain.

Dante, apart from not having a rangefinder obviously, why not just shoot the screamingly sharp 135mm lens horseman sells for the SW612?
